Janis Dworkis - Yogini of the Month Gaia Flow Yoga in Dallas TexasMy yoga journey began about six years ago when I decided to try a class offered in my neighborhood. From that very first vinyasa, I was struck by a powerful and comforting feeling that I had come “home”. After studying with a wonderful teacher there for a couple of years, a friend recommended hot yoga, and I immediately loved the way the heat seemed to open my body. But more importantly, I fell in love with the classes of one particular teacher. In Chrystal’s classes, I felt the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of yoga all come together. Addison Circle Yoga has been my yoga home since Andres and Chrystal opened the studio.

Yoga has become an oasis of peace in my life. From the moment I open the studio door, I begin to feel transformed by the warmth of the room and the breath of the incense. These are the physical signs that I have stepped out of the many external expectations of my day into the special space that is Gaia Flow yoga. I am blessed to be part of a community that is absolutely welcoming, accepting, and nurturing no matter our individual ages, abilities, body shapes, or ailments.

I have so many friends who tell me, “Oh, I can’t do yoga. I can’t turn myself into a pretzel. I can’t even touch my toes.” But that’s not really a problem, is it? Because yoga isn’t something we do, it’s something we explore each in our own way and in our own time. The process of building
an awareness of my body without judgment exactly where I am now . . . now. . . and now, has been one of the most powerful and liberating experiences of my life. And for those occasional moments of grace when the poses ride on the breath to reveal the joy of a moving meditation, I am deeply grateful.

Namaste.
