1. Yoga Dallas- Chrystal RaeWhy “warm” yoga over “hot” yoga? What are the benefits? Common sense, along with extensive scientific studies, reveals that excessive heat (HOT YOGA) can be potentially dangerous. On the other hand, there are many advantages and benefits to practicing in a heated environment (WARM YOGA). As compared to no heat or to excessive heat, a comfortably warm environment promotes flexibility, detoxification and stimulates the metabolism.
  2. What makes GFY temperature most beneficial for the body?

The standard room temperature in a Gaia Flow Yoga studio is a minimum of 87 degrees and a maximum of 94 degrees, making the room comfortably warm.  This temperature range is an excellent balance between the two extremes of cold and hot. If the room is too cold injuries may occur and if the room is too hot the body may overheat and create stress hormones.  Either of these two extremes are counter productive. Our objective at Gaia Flow Yoga is to create an environment that is healing, nurturing and empowering on all levels.
  3. In your opinion, how does GFY beat just another “get hot for summer” workout?

First of all, “get hot for summer” is not the objective of a Gaia Flow Yoga practice.  Having said that I must qualify by saying that our 3 comprehensive and complimentary GFY (Ocean, Mountain, Desert) practices are rigorous and empowering on all levels of body, mind and spirit.  And yes, with intention and consistency to your Gaia Flow Yoga practice, you will get in the best shape of your life. When the body, mind, emotions, and spirit come into balance, health and vitality are a natural occurrence.

  4. If you had a student who came to you and said, “My goal is to lose weight and look better at the pool?”, what are the top three things you would tell them to focus on?

I don’t have a uniform answer to that question as it depends on the student and their individual needs. The beauty of our sweet GFY practice is that once you walk through the door you are part of our family.  You are not just a number.  You are a real person with real needs. Yes, weight loss will occur on all levels.
  5. What yoga poses would you tell them to focus on?

Again, I have no uniform answers.  However, I can say that I would not recommend a particular yoga pose(s) to “look good on the beach.” Instead, I would direct them to the best yoga practice of our three comprehensive and complimentary Gaia Flow Yoga practices for their individual needs.
  6. How does GFY yoga work year-round, despite what season it is?

Yoga is a life style.  When practiced with intention and consistency, it promotes balance, health and well being on all levels.  It is not dependent on seasons, but rather on the commitment and dedication of the student both on and off the mat.   From my perspective, although many people come to yoga in search of fitness, the real benefits of yoga reach far beyond looking good on the beach! Gaia Flow Yoga promotes peace, power and flow both on and off the yoga mat, changing the planet one yogi at a time…
