“Let the beauty of what you love, be what you do.” – Rumi
Someone once told me if you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll never get there. That someone was not a yogi. Primed, prepped and polished as a graduate of Trinity University’s liberal arts program, my route took me into professional sports, working for the Dallas Cowboys Football Club and the San Antonio Spurs. Moving back to Dallas, I went all-out corporate for a publicly-traded company, the recipient of the Teamwork and Unity award in 2004. I moved on to assume position for a smaller, local company as Brand Manager, managing a nationwide team and working on a campaign program with Jessica Simpson. And while I felt my work was marketable, I felt the footprint was far from meaningful. An empty hollow existed but I wouldn’t bail. It wasn’t until Divine Order stepped in and forced me to pave a new path did I ever see myself stepping out of high heels and landing barefoot in yoga pants for a paycheck.
I had been a personal trainer on the side, working with adults and eventually moving into teaching children’s fitness. I had finished marathons, triathlons and ran collegiate cross country. I had played lacrosse and picked up cycling to past the time. Pilates and yoga at the gym, but never the journey. The road I thought I was on became just a bridge to get to where I needed to go.
Now, I dance mornings on my yoga mat, taking personal practices, teaching children the story of yoga through stories of animals, using the Ujjayi breath in moments of chaos and walking in flip-flops with active toes. As my body grows into yoga poses, my life grows stronger on a path of compassion, love and teaching.
Currently an active coach and educator of children’s yoga and fitness, I enjoy teaching children to turn inward in order to learn about their bodies, utilizing imagination, story and absolute love. When I’m not working with kids, I freelance as a marketing consultant and writer for local and national media outlets.
With each breath, I am alive again. On another journey. To another place. But I don’t need to know where I am going to get there. I only need to live each moment, knowing the breath I have now is the gift of absolute presence. The beauty of life is in the living. Only as far as we reach, can we grow.
Namaste,
Jordann
